Our assumption involves leap of faith. So spirituality says that we are making a different assumptions. What are those assumptions that give us a general understanding of the spiritual realm? Watch the 2nd part of the lecture "Science and spirituality" at Stanford University by Swami Mukundananda.
Swamiji explains spirituality in such a simple way. For scientific and technical people he explains it with the "atoms and molecules" analogy and makes the understanding of the "self" beyond atoms and molecules while quoting various scientists. The quotes from the Upanishadas helps you relate to the scriptures without having read them http://www.jkyog.org/gift-shop/books.
